What's up friends! Today's project was brought to you by our 20 year old front steps needing a serious make-over. We decided to go with charcoal grey/black steps to match our door. I must say it pairs really well with the Sp00ky decor also! I've briefly listed out the steps that went into building this and of course listed each product I used as well! Slowly but surely our home is getting the facelift it deserved!

Thanks for stopping bye!

How we do it.

Remove Crusty dusty decking

This part is pretty fun if you like to demolish stuff, and fun for the kiddos too. Bentley enjoyed being able to hit his hammer as hard as he could to help daddy get this job done!

Check structural strength of current framing

Although we planned on replacing the entire frame of the old deck, the wood and framing was actually in great shape, so we went ahead and added a few supports and went ahead and re-used the existing framing.

Install New Stair Stringers

Those old stairs were....... BAD. We just simply got a 5 stair stringer from "LOWES" and swapped out the old ones.

Install New Decking

This is where the vision finally comes back to life. We did have to trim these 12ft boards down a bit, but very simple install with 1/4 inch gaps.

Install Stair Toe Kicks

Cut to fit stair toe kicks with a Pine wood board.

Install Railing

Now for the fun part. Once the posts are set, which is very simple, the railing comes in sections which you cut to fit your needs. We had to cut about 16 inches off the ends for our stair sections using an angle grinder with a cut-off wheel, which cut through the steel like butter.

Paint!!!

Our house is transforming into adding more black exterior pieces so we went with Black on the toe kicks and trim around the front deck.

Finishing Touches

For our finishing touch, of course it's getting to be Fall so we are immediately jumping on everything Spooky, but we added some solar step lights to light the steps at night! I'm sure we will have a few other additions soon!
